Ann Taylor was founded by Richard Liebeskind. He opened the first Ann Taylor store in 1954 in New Haven, Connecticut. His father was also in the retail business. Liebeskind got the name for Ann Taylor from the name of a best selling dress at his father's store. Ann Taylor offer free standard shipping for orders over $125 to all customers within the continental United States. Orders under $125 are charged an $8.95 flat shipping fee. Orders shipped through the standard shipping method will arrive in 5-8 business days. The $125 total does not include taxes, gift cards, promotions or discounts, or past orders. Ann Taylor also offers 3 day shipping for a flat rate of $14.95. Orders will be shipped in 3 business days, and orders placed after 3pm EST Monday-Friday will be processed on the following business day. If you want your order the following business day, a flat fee of $24.95 is charged. If the order is placed before 3pm EST Monday-Friday it will be delivered the following business day, otherwise orders after 3pm will be processed the next business day and arrive on the second business day. This shipping method is not available to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.

Ann Taylor will accept returns on items that are unworn, unwashed, and in their original condition. Items that are returned within 45 days of the date on the receipt, with proof of purchase, will be refunded on the original payment method for the full purchase amount. Items without a receipt or that are returned after the 45 days will be credited in an Ann Taylor store card for the current selling price.
