The Baracuta fall-winter 2020 collection reflects a modern reinterpretation of British menswear. The first stop of this archival celebration is the coat of excellence: the Baracuta G9 model which is proposed in the G9 SHEERLING version in soft suede and sheepskin SUEDE, and in Italian leather. For the FW20 collection, the Baracuta G9 is also proposed in the new G9 CORDUROY in narrow or very wide corduroy. Thanks to the Thermore® Ecodown lining, it is even warmer and more comfortable and is available in five different colors.
Made of wool, the G9 finds essentiality and elegance in MELON WOOL made with soft-touch yarns, in particular in the cashmere and virgin wool versions that are offered in the most classic colors: burgundy, black and chocolate. For a more technical and modern look, there are Techshetland versions where the fine English lunar wool is combined with technical materials. The collection is completed by a selection of quilted garments in technical wool printed with trompe l'oeil motifs. The pieces are made of oiled fabric with padded lamb or eco-baby interiors, which have always been present in the repertoire of the British brand.
For the winter season, the G10 BARACUTA model from the 1960s evolves into a contemporary version adapted to celebrate the elegance of British standards. The Harringbone G10 is a completely new G10 and, while maintaining the details, the shape of the neckline and the umbrella-effect stick, it is made with new and cutting-edge materials and has a cozy and breathable interior thanks to the Fraser Tartan lining made of Thermore-coolmax.
Following the common thread of the archival models, the Montgomery model launched during the Second World War by the famous marshal and subsequently redesigned by Baracuta in two versions, revisiting a traditional cut presented in technical and modern fabric. The piece maintains the distinctive traits of tradition with the typical closure with wooden clasps while the innovation is reflected in the technical material combined with warm English wool.
American men's fashion meets British style by Baracuta
Sebago® presentation with Baracuta
Loafers, boat shoes and a jacket. Three models that have been revisited for the Spring Summer 2020 collection according to the brand's aesthetics. They come together in a perfect combination of artisan geometry and tartan.
After the preview of Pitti Immagine Uomo last June, the first co-branding has arrived, Sebago® with Baracuta. The symbol of the high-class American brand, renowned for its craftsmanship, and the British menswear brand, famous for its Scottish motif, come together to create a collection that revisits their respective iconic models. For Sebago: the "Dan Citysides" moccasin model and the "Portland Docksides" boat shoe model; and for Baracuta, the old G9 Harrington coat.
The Sebago® Dan model Baracuta is made of full-grain glossy leather, which lasts over time and is hand-stitched with the utmost craftsmanship. This moccasin revisits the iconic Sebago® model, a moccasin suitable for the four seasons. It has an unlined leather upper, molded rubber heel and hardened leather sole that offers strength, flexibility and waterproofness. Sebago® moccasins with Baracuta are available in black and burgundy and feature a red leather insole and a Fraser Tartan fit inside the toecap.
Sebago® Portland Baracuta - Born to be a perfect nautical shoe, this historic boat shoe model is made of suede in three different colors: red, dark green and blue, a palette that incorporates the colors of the Baracuta Fraser Tartan. Durable and hand-stitched, this model features a leather, a 360 ° leather lace system and a non-marking non-slip striped rubber sole that offers a secure grip in all weather conditions.
Sebago® with Baracuta also presents two items of clothing that reinterpret the famous G9 jacket: the Combo Jacket, in navy blue, green and red, and the Skipper Jacket, in all blue. The co-branding details feature the logos of the two brands in gold letters, which are printed on the inner lining.
A hallmark since 1940.
The history of tartan spans centuries and continents. Its origin is not certain, but it is known that this special intersection of threads and colors, called 'sett', has long occupied a special place in the history of fashion.
Commonly linked to Scotland, tartan appeared in the Highlands around the 16th century, when its inhabitants adopted it for the creation of their traditional woolen suit. The color for the threads used was obtained from berries and roots. When the threads were crossed in the weave, they generated a distinctive design. The tartan thus becomes a symbol of cultural belonging and a distinctive sign that is officially registered by the Highland Society in 1805. In 1842 the volume of the 'Vestiarium Scoticumdei' becomes the official catalog of Scottish tartans, while in the Victorian era the custom of tying spread the colors of the fabrics to the different families with the so-called Chief's Tartans.
This is where the Fraser Tartan belonging to the Lord Lovat family comes in. Consisting of the red background with white, green and blue superstructures, it has been present in Baracuta garments since 1940.
In 1940 the Miller brothers joined Manchester Golf Club, a historic club frequented by Lords of various counties who wanted to combine business and pleasure not far from the city. Avid golfers, the brothers begin designing a jacket that would be perfect for the golf course. Thus was born the model Baracuta G9: "G" like the Golf and "9" like the 9 holes of the course. Their desire was to create outerwear that guaranteed freedom of movement while maintaining the elegance of the outfit during the swing.
Along with the attention to detail such as the cut of the sleeves, the position and depth of the pockets which have been designed to hold at least two golf balls, the Miller brothers also spend a good deal of their time in equally careful fabric to cover the G9. They were looking for a brand, a feature that would make their product unique. Sooner or later they found it, thanks to Lord Lovat AKA Brigadier Simon Christopher Joseph Fraser, the most elegant Lord of Manchester Golf Club. Lord Lovat's family, owner of a family tartan, called 'Fraser Tartan', patented it to the Miller brothers in June 1940, allowing them to use it as the interior liner of their brand new Baracuta G9 model.
