It all started more than a decade ago, when Ryan Pamplin and John Zheng met through peers and formed a friendship. Over the years, the two Bay Area coaches have kept in touch while achieving success in their own careers.
But it was a freak accident 10 years later that brought them together to embark on a path to make the world a healthier place.
Let's stop that part of the story for a moment, because before Ryan and John joined forces, Ryan met Kathryn O'Malley (yes, this is one of those online success stories).
At the time, Kathryn was a Los Angeles food blogger and editor of GNC's WellBella magazine. When she wasn't behind a desk, she was acting in commercials and religiously taking Bootcamp classes at Barry's (and paying a lot for smoothies after class). When Ryan agreed to take a Barry class with Kathryn, she knew he was a guardian!
Soon, Kathryn moved to the Bay Area to be with Ryan. As they began their new life together, they were thrown into a curved ball when Ryan suffered a traumatic brain injury with severe post-concussive syndrome. To ensure his recovery, not only was he unable to work for nearly a year, he was also unable to use a computer, look at a screen, or even read for many months. The bright side during this devastating time was that Ryan became laser-focused and fed his body nutrition that would help it heal-and Kathryn was there beside him every step of the way. One of his favorite activities was cooking delicious vegan recipes together and making nutrient-rich smoothies.
After the accident, Ryan reconnected with John and expressed that he wanted to create a product that would help people live longer, healthier lives, and the two put their entrepreneurial heads together. Since they both depended on daily shakes to supplement their nutrition - post-workout shakes for John and fruit shakes for Ryan - they realized that what was lacking in the market was a blender that could make a smoothie without lumps or a smoothie straight from the gym or in travel.
In 2017, they co-founded BlendJet. Next, they needed talented people to fill their founding team if they were to take their idea into the stratosphere.
Kathryn, with her commercial background, was an easy choice to star in the BlendJet videos, but it was her communication skills and personability that made her the perfect person to build the ever-growing Customer Experience team.
To complete the founding team, Ryan and John chose Brian Zuk, a friend of John for many years. Brian used to run a very popular car channel on YouTube, but it was his MBA and international business experience that made him the ideal person to run operations, oversee compliance, and forge the essential manufacturing partnership to build the BlendJet One.
So that's the story of how BlendJet came to be, but there's more to it than that - and us - than that. It is often said that it is through adversity that people find their true strength and sense of purpose. This is certainly true for Ryan, and it was his accident that brought us together in this shared mission to spread health and well-being around the world. We are so close that we are like family. In fact, Ryan and Kathryn tied the knot in 2019 with the BlendJet team beside them, and they all toasted BlendJets on their wedding day.
