To explain the origin of Huawei, it is necessary to understand the situation in the country in the 1970s. With the death of Mao Tse-Tung in 1976, the People's Republic of China, which was controlled by the Communist Party, ended up under the command of Deng Xiaoping, responsible for the economic reforms that would make China the fastest growing country on the planet. At that time of transition, China was isolated from the rest of the world and, with the new government, made an economic, cultural and technological opening. This new period still faced strong state control, but it already received foreign capital. This led to the appearance of several companies from the most diverse sectors to serve both the national market and the rest of the world. And it was in this scenario that Ren Zhengfei, a military technology engineer for the People's Liberation Army, the armed wing of Communist China, founded Huawei on September 15, 1987 in the southeastern city of Shenzhen. The first products marketed by the new company were the PBX (acronym for Private Branch Exchange), an automatic telephone exchange device. Initially, it started by importing some household appliances from Hong Kong, but quickly began to manufacture its own models and sell them to hotels and small businesses. The basin was the C & C08 model, considered at the time of the first line in the sector.
In 1990, Huawei decided to invest heavily in research and development. In just one year, 600 people have already been hired for this department. At that time, the company's business was the equipment for Internet networks, starting in the countryside and rural areas and gradually moving to major Chinese cities. A decade after Its founding, in 1997, Ren Zhengfei traveled to America to see some of the largest companies in the West. And he realized how far behind China in the technology business model. It was then that the international expansion began. In 1998, the company signed a five-year contract with IBM for the computer giant to advise on the restructuring and preparation of Huawei for the global market. As a result, the following year, the company opened the first research laboratory outside the country, in India.
The following years were of growth and a lot of investment in networks and connectivity that were emerging, such as GSM. Holland, Sweden, Canada and the United States also won offices and laboratories from Huawei. It was then, in July 2003, that the company created the mobile division and launched the first cell phone, the C300. Two years later, it released its first proprietary 3G model, the U626. It also began to gain prominence in the production of modems. The E220, introduced in 2006, was considered the fastest and most compact at the time. Until then, the entry into the mobile segment had been a success. Another large and profitable market was that of patents. In 2008, Huawei ranked first in the International Patent System intellectual property register. In 2010, the first Huawei Ascend was introduced, which ran Android 2.1 and had just 2GB of internal memory and a 3.5-inch screen. Now discontinued, this was one of the brand's longest-lasting lines and some of its models were constantly competing to be the best in the world.
Also in 2010, Huawei increased its profits by 30%, an absurd number for a time of so much competition between brands. In March 2011, the company sold more than one million C8500 smartphones in China, 100 days after their official launch. Launched in August of that same year, Huawei Vision was the first smartphone based on cloud computing. And it was at this time that the company also introduced its storage service to the market. In 2013, IDC was already beginning to consider it as one of the three largest global smartphone manufacturers. Another popular line from the Chinese brand is Honor, launched in 2013. This line offered cheaper devices that were preferably sold online. There is also the Mate line, which brought devices for those who liked larger screens. Huawei also opted for wearables, but without directing so much investment. It debuted in this segment with the TalkBand B1 bracelet in 2014, but today the flagship of this sector is the Huawei Watch, which is already in its second generation, launched in 2017. Also in 2014 it presented the 4G LTE Ascend P7, one of the World's thinnest smartphones (6.5mm).
In partnership with Google, the company manufactured the Nexus 6P smartphone in 2015. The device had a distinctive design, especially on the back. The company also entered the laptop market less strongly. The Huawei MateBook was the brand's first 2-in-1. In 2016, it launched the first series of dual camera smartphones co-developed with Leica, the Huawei P9, setting a new standard in photography in this segment. In addition, it presented Hauwei HiLink, a smart home platform that offers interconnection and interworking solutions between all kinds of smart devices. More recently, in 2017, it launched the Huawei Mate P10 and Mate P10 Plus, smartphones that feature vivid colors and attractive finishes, also introducing front and rear cameras, as well as opening the doors to new mobile applications in the field of Artificial Intelligence. to combining innovative hardware. In August 2018, Huawei toppled Apple as the world's second smartphone, openly challenging the planetary leader Samsung. It also launched the Huawei P20 Pro, the first smartphone with three rear cameras.
And do you remember the partnership with IBM that helped the Chinese brand a lot? The company decided to pursue this idea and, over the years, has entered into other joint ventures with Motorola, Siemens, and Symantec. In addition, it established several alliances with local operators, such as Vodafone, T-Mobile and Bell Canada, which allowed the exclusive launch of models and the signing of several contracts.
