The history of the MOJO market
Founded in 2009, MOJO Marketplace is a leading platform for digital products, connecting our 5.8 million users to more than 7,500 items. Based in Salt Lake City, the MOJO platform was created for creators, executors, image creators, bloggers and the entrepreneur to provide the tools that bring ideas to life.
The big dream
Our story begins in 2006, when WordPress was on the rise. Our founder, JR Farr, dreamed of creating a platform for designers and developers to sell premium products to an audience that they couldn't reach. The dream came true in 2008, when he started working on the original platform, WordPressThemeMarketplace.com (cringe!)
MOJO is born
Over time, the project became MOJO Themes and was incorporated by a small green monster. (thank God!) It took six months to design and build the first version of the MOJO Themes market. In a truly visionary way, MOJO Themes was one of the first e-commerce sites built using WordPress.
March Padness
Start a business that they said. It will be easy, they said. Everyone will want to sell their items, and buyers will get together! Suffice to say, that was not the case. Due to limited items for sale, we face a chicken or egg puzzle; without sellers, there were no buyers. Without buyers, there were no sellers.
With the debut of the new Apple iPad, it was the perfect time to launch March Padness, a contest for most of the uploaded themes! Three lucky winners received the most coveted device on the planet and we increased our inventory for the launch.

Development of the Dream Team
As MOJO started to grow, so did the team. We added our first full-time employee and started recruiting talent in blue chip design and development. Isaac, Nick, Will and Mike gave us the dream team we needed to take the world of market themes by storm. We are happy to say that almost seven years later, the original team is still here, crushing and guiding MOJO Marketplace towards our vision. MOJO themes have become part of the story as the only recommended themes marketplace on WordPress.org. We had WordPress in our DNA from the beginning, so it was good to be recognized worldwide by the WordPress community.
